Back by popular demand, Lake Notes Music Studio will be hosting Piano Juries–an event for all pianists in the Cadillac area!

Why should my child participate?

Participating in festivals, juries, and competitions is valuable for each and every musician.  An event like this one gives students the opportunity to practice performing. Every time you perform and share you musical gifts with other people, you get better at performing and it becomes less and less scary! An event like this also gives you the opportunity to receive feedback from an experienced pianist who is not your teacher. While your teacher is probably amazing, they might not see or hear something that another musician will. Finally, participating in events like Piano Juries boosts confidence in kids. Every time they tackle a seemingly scary thing in a safe and friendly environment, they gain confidence to continue doing hard things. And grown ups who are confident and willing to take on challenges are unstoppable!

Who will he/she be playing for?

Our adjudicator will be Dana Fall. She is native to the Grand Traverse area, and recently received her Masters of Music in piano performance from Western Michigan University. Dana has a wide variety of performing experiences including wedding accompanying, contemporary church bands, solo gigs, and classical performances. She is currently working as a piano instructor at Northwestern Michigan College, a private piano and voice instructor, and serves as Assistant Worship Leader at New Hope Community Church.

When and where will Piano Juries be?

Piano juries will be held on April 28 in the morning at Cadillac United Methodist Church. They have a beautiful Yamaha grand piano and have graciously offered us the use of their building.

How will Juries work?

Each student is welcome to arrive early and warm up in the warm up room. The student will play the piece they have prepared for Dana, as well as the 5 finger pattern or scale in the same key as their piece. Then you are free to go! Dana will leave her complete notes and a filled out score sheet with your teacher to go over at your next lesson.

What do I need to bring?

Bring yourself, obviously! Also, bring your music, as well as a copy for the judge. She will want to be able to follow along as you play. If your piece is memorized, just bring along a copy for the judge.

How do I sign up?
